I didn’t know where his friends had gone, but I wasn’t concerned. If there was a God, they’d have struck a Mac truck on their drunken drive back to wherever they had crawled out from underneath. More likely the two of them were nestled in each others’ arms, shit on their dicks and the stale, though remarkably pungent, smell of feces suspended in the air around them.

The kitchen was less of a scene. Bottles were strewn about the counter and a few on the floor, but no broken glass. I opened the fridge to see what I could scrounge. I took a handful of shaved lunch meat and a couple slices of bread to make a sandwich. Whoever’s it was, they wouldn’t notice.
